Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)

How full is too full?

Front loaders work better when they are at least half full but there should be some space between the top of the laundry and the top of the drum or there won't be any room for the water - you should be able to move your hand up and down several inches.  If you need a friend to help you get the door closed, you probably want to move up a size.

Top loaders should not be so full that the agitator is below the clothes - if you overfill it your clothes won't wash or spin properly.  If you have to divide your load between two, try a triple loader - you'll save yourself a few quarters.

Which washer do I need?

If you're not sure, the attendant can help you figure it out, or you can try a few on for size.  If you only fill it half-way, try a smaller one and save a few dollars.  If you can't close the door, move up a size.  We don't mind if you want to try on a few before you decide - we'll even help you move it around if you like.

Where do I put my detergent pods/flings on a front loading machine?

Pods/Flings go inside the drum, with the clothes - NOT in the soap compartment.

The soap compartment is confusing me!

The soap compartment can be a bit confusing - here's a quick run down on how it works.

Powder Detergent goes in hole(s) 1 and/or 2

Liquid Detergent - We usually put half in hole 1, and half in 3

Powdered Bleach - put it in 2, with your detergent in 1

Liquid Bleach - that goes in hole 3 (back right)

Fabric Softener - hole 4 (back left)

Remember - the holes at the back are for liquids only - powder will not go down from these.

If you're using oxygen bleach, like oxiclean™ - we put ours in the tub before we add the clothes.

Scent booster crystals/beads should go inside the drum, or in holes 1 or 2

Do you have change?

Yes!  The attendants always have change for laundry customers.

How long do the machines run for?

Front loaders run for 23 minutes

Top loaders 30 minutes.

Dry-time depends on how much, and what type of clothing you have, and what temperature you're using, but most people find about 30 minutes is enough.
